On the last backpack (which seems like ages ago now but is only 3 weeks), the liners of our Montrail Stratos shoes started to leak. This of course is one disadvantage of lined lightweight footwear, and of this design in particular: the liner is on the outside of the main upper and protected only by a thin but fairly tough fabric, which improves breathability over conventional lined shoes but is more prone to damage. Considering some of the terrain we walk in, we are quite pleased if the liner lasts a few months, and that’s about right with this pair. This will be the fourth pair we have bought.
Apparently UK shops are not renewing their stocks, even though the Stratos is still current on the Montrail website. They are very hard to get now in the UK in our sizes, but they have been so good that we made a determined effort and we eventually found a shop that had them listed: ItchyFeet.
It turned out that they didn’t have them in the shop, but they could get them from the european importer. It took a little while but they eventually landed in the shop and should be on their way to us now.
This will almost certainly be the last pair of Stratos, when these give up the ghost we recommence the struggle to find lightweight mid-cut shoes with a good fit: we are not looking forward to that at all…
