A varied backpack combining valleys and hills, visiting the waterfalls of Wensleydale, the little frequented mine-scarred high moors above Castle Bolton and returning along Swaledale to finish with a traverse of Great Shunner Fell.
The murkiest weather had been predicted for the western strip of the country, and an overdue trip further east in the Yorkshire Dales seemed a sound choice.

Interesting trip in an area I know fairly well. I’ve sometimes wondered about all the old lead mines and their effect (if any nowadays?) on water quality. Did you collect water from streams? Did you treat it, take the risk or use piped supplies where available?
Phil,
Apart from the very occasional walk entirely in low level country, we always collect water from streams and never treat it. We always check the map for the source and make sure there is no human habitation above. The effect of minerals from long abandoned mines - if any - is nothing to bother about when collecting water well downstream. In this sanitized society people worry too much!.
