A circuit of the Langdale Pikes from Grasmere, approaching via Easedale Tarn and Codale Tarn and returning down the Far Easedale path.
A first taste of winter in a trip of contrasts: the first day almost entirely sunny and crystal clear and bitingly cold in a northerly weather stream, the second in intermittent snowfall and muted colours but hugely enjoyable in the eerie silence and enhanced textures of the frozen landscape.
This trip was just three days after the ferocious weather in the Lake District at the weekend, which saw the OMM (Original Mountain Marathon) event cancelled a few hours after the start (amid a storm of media controversy and sensational misreporting) and chaos in the region as the rescue teams and services struggled to cope in the worst conditions in living memory. The rainfall had been colossal and the valleys were severely flooded with some road closures, and we thought it prudent to aim for an easy start close to a major road in case of problems - this is a minor variation of our previous Easedale routes.

Class as always. I like the dusting of snow. Good way to go from where you started.
I love visting your site Geoff - inspirational stuff. I need to get out for a walk so in the meantime this gives me my little dose of the outdoors - Thank you fella.
Martin,
Thanks again. It might be described as ‘the wrong kind of snow’, enough to wipe out the autumn colour but not enough to make the mountains really white!. It’s just another mood of the landscape though, and very enjoyable in a different way.
Alan,
Thanks to you too. Reading about your tribulations of late, may I suggest that a solo trip to some deserted hills might be therapeutic, sitting in your tent in the peace and solitude of the mountains and sorting out your thoughts?.
